About me

About me

Gertrud Hurck
I graduated from the University of the Saarland with a diploma in translation (minor subject Business Administration and Economics) in 1993.
I then worked in full-time employment as a translator at Aumund Fördertechnik, a conveyor-producing company in Rheinberg.

In 1995, I started my own business. Since then have been working as a freelancing translator specializing in the translation of legal, business and financial texts; over the years, I also acquired expertise in medical translations.
In 1996, I was sworn before the Higher Regional Court of Hamm and was thereby issued the authorization to certify the completeness and correctness of translations from and into the English and French language; since then, this authorization is extended every 5 years.

Although I gain in-depth knowledge through my long-term professional experience I keep myself informed about changes and developments in the translation business and my fields of expertise.

Thus, I successfully passed the specialist exam for the “Certificate of Specialized Knowlege of German Legal Language” issued by the Nürtingen-Geislingen University for Economics and Environmental Studies and completed the advanced training on French legal language offered by the BDÜ.

Translating is continuous training - As a freelancer I am not limited to the translations of only one company; I translate a wide variety of texts every day that stem from my special subjects but also from adjacent fields. By reading the expressions of the source texts, researching background information (no translation without comprehension), by looking up and integrating previously unknown expressions in the target texts I regularly expand my knowledge base.
